Indonesian Environment Minister Siti Nurbaya said the two-day meeting scheduled to be opened on Wednesday, is a forum of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
Delegations from some 89 countries with around 400 government officials will attend the meeting held every five years, Siti said here on Tuesday.
Indonesia, represented by Minister Siti Nurbaya, will chair the forum.
The theme of the IGR 4 is "Pollution in Ocean and Land Connection". The agreements reached in the IGR-4 would be included in the Bali Declaration as a concrete support for the protection and preservation of global marine environment especially against plastic garbage.
There are three main agenda of IGR4. First, review of the implementation of Global Program of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-based Activities (GPA) in 2012-2017 period as a mandate of the Manila Declaration.
Second, drafting policy for GPA in the period of 2018-2022. Third, working program of GPA of 2018-2022 period to be carried out through Coordination Office.
"We will prove Indonesia`s commitments and leadership in the IGR 4 with positive agreements for the world`s future especially to cope with sea pollution," Siti Nurbaya said.
Indonesia is entrusted to host the meeting after IGR-1 in Montreal, Canada in 2001; IGR-2 in Beijing, China in 2006; and IGR-3 in Manila in 2012 with Manila Declaration.
Environment Minister of the Republic of Congo Arlette Soudan-Nonault, who is also acting Tourism Minister of the country has taken time to visit West Kalimantan to see how Indonesia has protected peat lands.
Arlette and members of his delegation and the Executive Director of UNEP Erik Solheim also attended the commissioning of the International Tropical Peat Center in Bogor on Tuesday.
"This also showed the world`s appreciation for the various initiatives taken by the government of Indonesia related to its climate change commitment to bring to reality inclusive and sustainable development," Siti Nurbaya said.
