"The TNI AU is required to not only be professional and proficient in operating the main weaponry system equipment (alutsista) but to also be reliable in facing the threat of cyber space," Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Yuyu Sutisna noted at a national seminar on "Cyber Warfare, a New Dimension of World War" at the campus of the TNI AU Command School here on Wednesday.
Cyber warfare is either a new threat or challenge for which precautionary measures must be taken from earlier on by intensifying vigilance to avoid public unrest, he noted in his address read out by his security assistant, Rear Marshal Dwi Fajariyanto.
He said cyber warfare using computer and internet through the cyber world hacked the computer networks of other countries, with the aim of attacking the rival`s information system.
The cyber threats and attacks cover all aspects of life, including ideology, economy, culture, defense, security, science and technology, he stated.
Hence, the state defense system and strategy should take into account global developments, particularly a change in the characteristics of war, he stated.
"The characteristics and models of modern war are driven more dominantly by the rapid growth of information and communication technology. Modern war is no longer dominated by territorial war applying the concept of guerrilla war but it is intended to paralyze the financial system, banking system, and infrastructure," he added.
