"SOEs and their subsidiaries are expected to deliver better performance, so they will be able to compete in future, especially in the era of industrialization," Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology Farida Dwi Cahyarini stated at the BUMN (SEOs) Branding and Marketing Award event held here on Wednesday.
Cahyarini pointed out that Indonesia lagged somewhat behind neighboring countries. For instance, Thailand had since 2014 embraced Industry 4.0, while the Indonesian government had recently initiated the concept in around 2018.
Cahyarini noted that the Industrial 4.0 era was marked by changes, especially in terms of digitalization technology, so the leadership pattern should also be improved.
Cahyarini warned against leadership failing to keep up with the technological advancements.
Hence, Cahyarini stated that SOEs and their various subsidiaries were also expected to adapt to various technological advances, such as digitalization, which is currently being applied in several sectors.
Cahyarini reminded that if the leaders of SOEs failed to change their mindset according to Industry 4.0, then in future, the companies could be left behind. Furthermore, the road map for Industry 4.0 should also be regularly rechecked.
Earlier, Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the Commission VII Ridwan Hisjam had stressed the importance of human resource development in the face of the Industrial Revolution 4.0.
Hisjam opined that Indonesia should cooperate with industry players and foreign governments to improve the quality of vocational schools while simultaneously enhancing the labor mobility program to accelerate transfer of capabilities.
Hisjam believes that in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0, cooperation patterns with various parties should be renewed, especially in terms of innovation.
He added that universities, especially lecturers, are required to make adjustments in line with the changes taking place in the era of Industry 4.0, such as the development of online technology.
Industry 4.0, or so-called the era of Internet of Things (IoT), is a phase in the technological development that involves the application of internet and digital technologies in varied fields, including factories, educational supporting systems, and also in daily life, such as online shopping.
