"If there are volunteer organizations, let them go ahead and contribute if they still have funds left. Do not give too much, as the priority is your family," he said in his directives in a meeting with his supporters here on Wednesday evening.
He stated that every penny that they contribute would really be used to support people`s efforts to make him win in the election in April next year.
"If you have Rp30 thousand ($2), you may send Rp20 thousand (US$1.50) of it to us rather than using it to buy cigarettes or whatever," he remarked.
He revealed that a motorbike taxi rider had given him Rp44,800, but he only accepted Rp5 thousand of it. "I sent him a message telling thank you, but I only took Rp5 thousand, because the money belongs to his wife and children," he added.
He remarked that the other supporter, who is also a motorbike taxi rider, had given him Rp80 thousand, but "I took only Rp20 thousand of it. I gave Rp60 thousand back to him for his family."
Subianto revealed that contributions continued to come in from individuals who voluntarily support him. "Some sent Rp100 thousand, others Rp50 thousand, or Rp500 thousand. Now it has turned like a snowball," he explained.
The former army general, with young businessman Sandiaga Uno as his running mate, would compete against incumbent candidate Joko Widodo, who pairs with chief cleric Ma`ruf Amin.
