Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Social Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita has invited millennials to become the pioneers of peace by actualizing the values of local wisdom in daily life.

"Indonesia has a knot of local wisdom, namely Pancasila. Pancasila values that have been in existence for a while must continue to be implemented as the basis for the behavior of the Indonesian people. If we believe Pancasila values can lead us to national progress, we must consistently practice the whole principle of Pancasila," the minister remarked here on Friday.

Gumiwang said that the rapid flow of globalization and information technology had a profound influence on the perspectives, culture and lifestyle of the current millennial generation.

The characteristics of the millennial generation itself may vary by region and socio-economic conditions. However, in general, their character is shaped by their familiarity with technology.

"In the millennial era, the penetration of the impact of globalization is getting stronger as the level of advancement in information technology increases," the social minister said, while delivering the Cultural Oration at the National Workshop on Local Wisdom in 2018 themed "Local Wisdom Actualization as Cultural Identity in the Millennium Era".

Gumiwang said local wisdom is one of the forms of the identity of the Indonesian nation and the millennial generation is the successor of the nation.

"Local wisdom, which has always been a national identity, should not be eroded by the global culture that comes in as technology advances," he said.

According to the minister, local wisdom in Indonesia is one of the important pillars for the creation of harmonious relations between communities, including the use of natural resources so as to not cause social conflict.

The workshop on local wisdom is a new initiative carried out by the Ministry of Social Affairs, aimed at actualizing the values of local wisdom in community life, especially in the millennial era.
