"I have seen that communication and consolidation among economic actors and market players in the monetary, fiscal, and market sectors are getting better," President Jokowi remarked while attending the opening ceremony of CEO Networking 2018 at the Ritz Carlton Pacific Place here on Monday.
The president noted that Indonesia currently also requires leaders in all open sectors, including the economic sector, adding that they should be able to respond quickly to global changes.
"If we are still rambling on bureaucracy and still make things complicated, we will be left behind," Jokowi noted, highlighting that the nation`s competitiveness needs to be boosted swiftly.
The head of state also explained that Indonesia must improve the quality of its human resources through vocational training and vocational schools.
"(Improving the quality of human resources holds significance since) global changes are now occurring at a very fast pace. The government, private sector, and state-owned companies, all of them, must conduct it on a massive scale, and there are a million other things that we also have to upgrade," the president stated while referring to the improvement in the quality of human resources.
Furthermore, the head of state elaborated that Indonesia needs agents of transformation at the village, district, provincial, and also national levels.
Jokowi then called for a shift in strategy from infrastructure development to human resource development.
The president emphasized that this must be done to avoid the middle-income economic trap.
