Nearly 855.9 thousand, or 66 percent of the tourists traveled to Indonesia by air; 243.7 thousand, or 19 percent by sea; and 192.5 thousand, or 15 percent by land, BPS Chief Suhariyanto noted at a press conference here on Monday.
As many as 516 thousand tourists arrived in Indonesia via the Ngurah Rai Airport, 243 thousand via the Soekarno-Hatta Airport, 141 thousand via Batam, 48 thousand via Tanjung Uban, 26 thousand via the Juanda Airport, and 14 thousand via Jayapura.
In terms of nationality, China took the lead as the country contributing the highest number of foreign tourists to Indonesia in October 2018, with 183 thousand travelers; followed by Malaysia, with 175 thousand tourists; Timor Leste, with 144 thousand tourists; Singapore, with 136 thousand tourists; and Australia, with 116 thousand tourists.
"On an average, the number of tourists from the countries, except Malaysia, increased. More than 178 Malaysian tourists visited Indonesia in the same month last year," he stated.
Cumulatively, the number of tourist arrivals from January to October 2018 was recorded at 13.24 million.
The 13.24 million tourists comprised 4.9 million from Asia except the ASEAN, 4.4 million from ASEAN member states, and 1.7 million from Europe.
