Sigi, C Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Flash floods inundated the Trans-Sulawesi road connecting Palu, the capital city of Central Sulawesi Province, to Kulawi Subdistrict in Sigi District on Wednesday after heavy rains showered the area over the past days.

The road section in Salua Village, Kulawi Subdistrict, Sigi District, was also covered by mud landslide. As a result, the flows of vehicle and mobility of goods and people got disrupted.

Extreme weather has hit certain parts of Indonesia over the past two weeks. In the West Java city of Bogor, for instance, torrential rains and strong winds recently hit certain areas, causing many trees to fall down and a resident to get killed.

The whirlwind that hit the South Bogor Subdistrict areas, including Cipaku and Batutulis, on December 6, 2018, also damaged many houses and caused traffic jams.

The extreme weather also caused landslides and floods in other parts of Java Island.

In Pacitan, East Java, four members of a family in Sidomulyo Village, Kebonagung Sub-district, Pacitan District, East Java Province, reportedly got trapped under the rubble of a landslide that crushed their house on December 7, 2018.

According to Chief of the Pacitan District Military Command Lt Col Aristoteles Hengkeng Nusa Lawitang, the four missing people were identified as Mesgiman and his wife Sogirah, Inem, and Bogiyem, Mesgiman`s parent-in-law.

The victims were at home when the cliff behind their house suddenly collapsed and buried almost all parts of the building.

The deadly landslide occurred after the village area was hit by torrential rains. Apart from triggering a landslide in Sidomulyo Village, the heavy rains also caused floods that inundated certain areas in Kebonagung Sub-district.

Several hundred residents of Kebonagung Sub-district fled their houses to seek refuge in safer places, particularly after an embankment of Jelok River broke, thereby resulting in the water gushing out and inundating its surrounding areas.
