In a press statement received here on Wednesday, Nasution stated that the Java-1 project would be one of the important power plants that would support the Java-Bali power system.
The Java-1 PLTGU project, involving 20 companies from home and abroad, is worth around US$1.8 billion or Rp26 trillion.
The project is projected to have a capacity of 1,760 MW using 400 million cubic feet liquefied natural gas a day from Tangguh field.
The government has determined the project not only as a national strategic project but also as a prioritized project.
Nasution, the coordinating minister for economic affairs, called on Pertamina, PLN, and other parties involved in the project to carry out their cooperation according to the plan to assure the smooth implementation and target achievement.
The launching ceremony was attended by the president director of Pertamina (state-owned energy company), Nicke Eidyawati; deputy head of Karawang district Ahmad Zamaksyari; Japanese ambassador Tadayuki Miyashita; US ambassador Joseph F Donovan Jr; and director of strategic procurement of state-owned power company PT PLN, Supangkat Iwan Santoso.
Eidyawati noted that the gas-powered electricity plant is one of the efforts to support the government`s policy to increase composition of clean energy by 2025.
"This project is a strategic step to implement the government`s commitment to support new and renewable energy sources," she added.
