Vice President Kalla stated in Makassar, capital of South Sulawesi province, on Saturday that Islamic leaders can utilize the increasingly sophisticated developments in information technology to become successful entrepreneurs and have a positive impact on the surrounding community.
"Muslims always recount the progress of the past, but that advancement is going forward," he remarked at the launch of the infrastructure of the Makassar Islamic University (UIM) today.
Based on data from the richest people in Indonesia, he remarked that only one Muslim Chairul Tanjung had managed to break through the top 10.
He clarified that this is not a matter of religion but serves as an eye-opener as well as a momentum for the community or Muslims to harbor a daring spirit to become entrepreneurs.
He believes that the UIM campus, as an Islamic campus, should have contributed to creating new entrepreneurs.
UIM, as a campus, must also be clear that the goal is to focus on advancing knowledge and technological developments or to not become a mere museum.
He noted that the museum had always looked back, but education in this modern and sophisticated era should think about how to go forward.
"Hence, this UIM campus must also prioritize the principle of entrepreneurship by providing facilities and infrastructure," he added.
