"Being a mother is a tough but noble task to shape our younger generations," he stated at the private residence of Vice President Jusuf Kalla here on Saturday.
The head of state made the remarks in connection with the commemoration of Mothers Day, which falls on Dec 22.
"In educating children, a mother is the main teacher of each family in Indonesia, because she is the first person to instill her children with knowledge," he noted.
A mother is also a doctor for her family, he added.
"A mother is like a doctor (for her family) in the morning, at night, and at dawn, if something happens to her children. That is the tough task," he remarked.
Also, a mother does not demand a token of appreciation in return for her services to her children, he revealed.
"I think there are too many things to mention one by one. The task entrusted by God Almighty to every mother is tough," he explained.
While admitting that he had not gifted anything special for First Lady Iriana on the occasion of the Mothers Day, the president noted that the lunch hosted by the vice president served as a valuable moment for them.
