"It can be done via land, because there was no earthquake (that trigger tsunami). Damages on infrastructure usually caused by an earthquake. But here we have landslide, possibly from Mount Anak Krakatau," Kalla said after a meeting on Sunda Strait tsunami mitigation at the Halim Perdana Kusuma airport on Sunday.
However, Kalla has ordered the Public Works and Housing Minister to immediately renovate infrastructures that were damaged by the tsunami.
The government has sent teams from the Social Affairs Ministry, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) to help local residents affected by the disaster.
Meanwhile the Indonesian Military Chief, Air Chief Marshall Hadi Tjahjanto said after an air observation, he did not see any road damages along the Anyer to Carita beach due to the disaster.
"Based on our air monitoring, along the route from Anyer to the southern area - Carita beach, Labuan to Tanjung Lesung- road infrastructure are fine. No cracks, no collapsed bridge," Hadi said after reporting his observation to the Vice President.
According to Hadi, the worst-hit areas are Anyer and Tanjung Lesung, where many trees were uprooted and the beach were swept by high waves.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla has cancelled his plan to visit the tsunami-hit regions because his helicopter could not land in the location due to bad weather.
