Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - A new railway serving transport from the Yogyakarta city to the new Yogyakarta International Airport will begin operation on the same day the airport is commissioned.

The New Yogyakarta International Airport in the district of Kulonprogo is expected to come on line in April 2019 replacing the old Asisutjipto airport.

"We will open access up to the Wojo station. At the time the airport begins operation the airport railway will also be operational," chief spokesman of PT KAI , the state-owned railway company, Eko Budiyanto said here on Wednesday.

The Wojo station is only around 10 minutes by bus to the airport, he said, adding, there would be buses or shuttle buses from the station to the airport.

He said, there is already passenger train to the New Yogyakarta International Airport (NYIA).

"The plan is for the time being we will use the Solo Express train," he said, adding the train to the NYIA would take passengers from a number of stations including the Maguwo station and the Tugu station to the Wojo station.

Meanwhile, land clearing for permanent track up to the Kedundang station, which is closer to the airport would continue in process. The Kedundang station is only 6 kilometers from the new airport.

Eko said the airport railway will also be connected with track to the Adi Sumarmo airport of Solo in Central Java.
