Lebak, Banten (ANTARA News) - Floods swept through nine villages in Lebak district, Banten province, on Wednesday, inundating hundreds of houses.

The floods hit Banjarsari and Cimarga sub-districts after several rivers overflowed their banks due to rains throughout Tuesday (Dec 25), Acting Chief of the Lebak District Disaster Mitigation Board (BPBD) Kaprawi said on Wednesday.

The water level in the flood-stricken villages ranged from 1 to 1.5 meters.

The floods inundated 405 houses in Keusik village, 20 in Ciruji village, 33 in Umbul Jaya village and 67 in Cidahu village in Banjarsari sub-district, 89 in Inten Jaya village, and 8 in Giri Mukti village in Cimarga sub-district.

The floods forced residents to move to higher ground as the flood water had not subsided until Wednesday.

"We call on residents to stay alert for the bad weather, because we fear the floods will spread to other villages," he noted.

There was no immediate report of casualties or material damage.
