Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Bank Indonesia (BI) announced that the country`s inflation rate until the fourth week of December 2018 will reach 0.56 percent month-to-month, or 3.07 percent year-on-year.

"Based on the result of a survey we conducted until the fourth week of December, we predict the inflation from the consumer price index (IHK) in December 2018 will reach 0.56 percent month-to-month. On a year-on-year basis, we estimate it at 3.07 percent," BI Governor Perry Warjiyo stated here on Friday.

The December 2018 inflation suggested that the inflation was relatively controllable and lower that the central bank`s earlier forecast, he noted.

"The inflation forecast in 2018 is less than 3.2 percent," he stated.

Just in December 2018, there was a seasonal increase in air transport tariffs and chicken meat and egg prices, he noted.

"However, the increase was seasonal. Overall, the inflation remains low and controllable," he said.

He said BI is optimistic that the inflation rate in 2019 will remain low and under control at 3.5 percent, give or take one percent.

"We still maintain the forecast for the end of next year. Insya Allah (God willing), it will stay at 3.5 percent. If the point estimate is around 3.5 percent, then the mid-point will be the range of the inflation target," he added.
