Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Incumbent presidential candidate Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and his running mate Ma`ruf Amin were stuck in heavy traffic jam in Jenderal Sudirman Street, on their way to attend the first presidential debate at Bidakara Hotel, South Jakarta, on Thursday night, Jan 17.

The pair were expected to arrive at the venue by 8 p.m. local time to face their challengers, presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and his running mate former vice governor of Jakarta Sandiaga Uno, in a debate, under the theme "law, human rights, corruption, and terrorism."

Meanwhile, Prabowo and Sandiaga arrived earlier at around 7 p.m.

A live report from Indonesia National Television (TVRI) at the venue showed Jokowi and Amin arriving at around 7.30 p.m.

"We are ready," Jokowi stated during a doorstop interview.

Jokowi noted that he would present what he had been doing for the last four years in the administrative capacity.

Ma'ruf added that he would support Jokowi`s policy in the future.

The General Election Commission (KPU) would hold a total of five presidential debates ahead of elections in April 2019, in a bid to enable the two pairs to present their views on various topics.

Earlier, on Wednesday (Jan 16), the presidential candidates who hold number 1 on their ballots, Jokowi-Amin, had a rehearsal at Djakarta Theatre in Central Jakarta.

While, their opponents who hold number 2 on their ballots, Subianto-Uno`s, rehearsal was at Subianto`s private residence in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.
