Jakarta(ANTARA News) - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and Customs and Excise Authorities managed to secure marijuana-type drugs (opium), weighing some 1.5 tons, from Parman, a convict at the Kebon Waru Penitentiary in Bandung, West Java.

"The operations by the National Narcotics Agency and Customs and Excise officers were conducted at two locations -- Bogor and Cargo terminal at Soekarno Hatta Airport-- on Wednesday night at around 22:00 WIB," BNN Eradication Deputy, Inspector General Arman Depari, stated via a message received in Jakarta on Thursday.

The team also succeeded in securing three perpetrators -- Bambang, Imron, and Parman -- along with evidence of drugs and non-drugs.

The chronology of arrests was made after the BNN received information from the community, with Customs and Excise officers conducting an investigation and following a truck from Aceh to Bogor.

When arriving at the scene in Bogor, the truck was abandoned by the driver and the key left with the parking attendant.

At that time, BNN members immediately made arrests. The results of interrogation and statement of the suspect helped to retrace the drugs at the cargo terminal at Soekarno Hatta Airport and led to the arrests of two other perpetrators, he stated.

"Marijuana is carried by land using trucks designed as though they were refrigerated transport vehicles," Arman revealed.

The marijuana was concealed in the bottom of the truck in a special compartment covered with iron plates, while some of the marijuana was sent using air cargo.
