"As compared to 2017, the manufacturing industries grew by 4.07 percent. The growth of the manufacturing industry is rather slow due to several factors, one of them being the trade war between the United States and China," Head of BPS Suharyanto remarked here on Friday.
Suharyanto noted that manufacturing industries experienced slow growth last year also on account of the weakening economy in Indonesia`s export destination countries.
He further cited several industrial sectors that had registered the highest growth in 2018, including the leather industry as well as leather goods and footwear industries, which grew by 18.78 percent and became the main drivers of growth in the manufacturing industry in 2018.
Furthermore, several other manufacturing industries that also experienced sound growth last year comprised the food and beverage industries, which grew by 16.04 percent; apparel industry, 13.17 percent; rubber and plastic goods industry, 11.29 percent; and machinery and equipment industry, 10.85 percent.
However, several manufacturing industries, specifically the computer industry as well as electronics and optical goods industries, experienced a major decline in production last year.
