The two boats ran aground because the shallow water off the seaport due to low tide, according to information from the fishing port authorities.
The Malaysia-flagged boats were KHF 1980, weighing 63.74 gross tons (GT), and KHF 2598, weighing 64.19 GT, respectively.
The Indonesian Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry`s patrol boat KP Hiu 012 detained the foreign fishing boats in two separate locations in Malaka Strait waters inside Indonesian territories on Feb 2, 2019, Captain Novri Sangian of KP Hiu 012 stated.
The fishing boats, carrying a total of 350 kilograms of mixed fish, failed to show required legal documents.
