"The president has never intervened in legal matters at all."Pangkal Pinang, Babel, (ANTARA) - The Presidential Chief of Staff, Moeldoko, stressed that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had never intervened in legal matters that occurred to anyone.
"The president has never intervened in legal matters at all," Moeldoko told the media in Pangkal Pinang, Bangka Belitung Islands, on Thursday, regarding statements from defendants in the Bogor Regency, Bahar bin Smith, to Jokowi.
According to Moeldoko, Bahar had misunderstood the law enforcement in Indonesia.
"All matters related to violations of the law are handled entirely by law enforcers, of course. So the president, in this context, does not intervene and does not interfere, and so is the legal process undertaken by Mr. Bahar," the former TNI commander noted.
Moeldoko assessed that in recent times law enforcement has often been misinterpreted and linked to Jokowi's leadership.
In addition to Bahar, drug abuse cases by a politician, with the initials AA, have also been blamed on Jokowi.
"This is how it is, there are thinking anomalies. This needs to be straightened out in this country, so that people do not arbitrarily direct their targets to Mr. Jokowi, in particular," Moeldoko explained.
He assessed that there was a purpose for the accusation phenomenon, namely the appealing of public opinion for practical political interests.
Previously, Bahar had attended a trial following a criminal case involving him. Bahar was involved in a criminal case of persecution of two teenagers in Bogor.
When he left the courtroom at the Bandung Archives and Library Building on Thursday, he expressed his frustration.
Bahar accused the law of being unfair to him and revealed a statement similar to "threats" to Jokowi.
