Jakarta (ANTARA) - Two Indonesian citizens were being hospitalized at a Christchurch public hospital due to their serious gunshot wounds. They were among the victims of mass shooting terrorist attacks on two mosques in Christchurch City, New Zealand, on Friday at 1:40 p.m. (local time).

"We have just received information that there are two Indonesian citizens who become victims in the event of a shooting at a mosque in Christchurch City, New Zealand," Indonesian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir said on Friday.

Arrmanatha stated, based on information gathered by the Indonesian Embassy in Wellington from Indonesian citizens in Christchurch, that two Indonesian citizens who were shot during the incident were a father and a child. Both of them are still getting treatment at Christchurch Public Hospital.

"His father is currently being treated in the ICU and his child is also being treated in the same hospital but in a usual treatment room," he said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs representing the Indonesian government expressed concern over the disaster that struck the two Indonesian citizens.

"We are deeply concerned about the current situation, which is experienced by the victims and their families. We pray that the father and son will recover soon," he said.

However, so far the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not received detailed information on Indonesian citizens who were victims of the shooting in New Zealand.

"For the detailed information we received is not complete. But based on the information we received, the father and son (Indonesian citizen) and his family have not lived in Christchurch," he explained.

Regarding the situation after the shooting in Christchurch, the Indonesian Government appealed to Indonesian citizens in New Zealand to increase their vigilance and remain cautious.

Based on the records of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there are 331 Indonesian citizens in the city of Christchurch, including 134 students. The distance from Wellington to Christchurch reaches 440 kilometers.

The shooting at the mosque in Christchurch in New Zealand came as a number of Muslims were carrying out Friday prayers.

The New Zealand Police have called on everyone to reduce outside activities and try to remain indoors.
