Jakarta (ANTARA) - Members of the Disaster Emergency Response Team, ACT, has continued search and rescue efforts in Sentani sub-district, Jayapura District, Papua Province, which was hit by flash floods on Saturday evening, following incessant heavy rain.

"Since yesterday evening, our volunteers have helped carry out evacuation, assessment and mud clearance in Sentani," ACT coordinator Kusmayadi said in a statement here, Sunday.

They also distributed some 1,000 cooked food for flood victims, and planned to set up an ACT humanitarian command post and a public kitchen in Sentani.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that as of Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB) , at least 42 people were dead and 21 others injured due to flooding in nine urban villages in Sentani.

Flooding also damaged at least nine homes, two bridges, one car, and one Twin Otter aircraft being parked at Adventis Doyo airport in Sentani.

Some 150 homes were still inundated at Bintang Timur residential area in Sentani.
The nine urban villages in Sentani affected by flooding were Barnabas Marweri, Piter Pangkatana, Kristian Pangakatan, Didimus Pangkatana, Andi Pangkatana, Yonasmanuri, Yulianus Pangkatana, Nelson Pangkatan, and Nesmanuri.

The local authorities have deployed search and rescue team comprising among others police and military personnel, to carry out evacuation operation of flood victims.
