Manado (ANTARA) - Several Chinese investors have expressed keen interest in managing geothermal sources in Tomohon city, North Sulawesi province, an official said.

"A number of investors are interested in managing geothermal sources in Tomohon city," Head of the North Sulawesi Provincial Investment and Integrated One-Stop Service Henry Kaitjily said in Manado on Tuesday.

The geothermal sources have the potential to generate 1,400 megawatts of electrical power. However, only 200 megawatts of electricity have been produced, he said.

"The large volume (of geothermal energy) is being offered to investors," he said.

The North Sulawesi provincial government also offered investors a chance to invest in the development of energy infrastructure, he said.

"We offer all opportunities that investors can manage. We hope all relevant parties help with the inflow of investments. We will arrange the human resources needed to manage the energy," he said.

He said his side will ask for a confirmation from the investors that will manage the geothermal sources.

"In essence, we are not awaiting them. But we will talk with them to realize their investment plan soon. The regional government will prepare an instrument to ease the inflow of investment," he said.
