Surabaya (ANTARA) - The Japan Alumni Association (Persada) has called on Indonesians living in East Java Province who had returned after studying in Japan to immediately join and participate in the Persada- East Java Chapter.

"The main objective of Persada is to expand the networks," Chairman of Persada-East Java Chapter Sherman Salim said in Surabaya on Tuesday.

Salim urged 70 Indonesians graduating from various universities in Japan who currently work in various fields in East Java to join this association's local chapter. He reminded them of the importance of joining the association when speaking at a function held at the residence of Japanese Consul General Masaki Tani on Monday evening.

During the event, each of the attending representatives of universities, schools, and agencies introduced themselves, and shared views and information while enjoying dinner together. By doing so, they were expected to know one another better and enable them to expand the network, he said.

Meanwhile, Japanese Consul General Masaki Tani appreciated all the alumni who had joined the Persada-East Java Chapter, saying that it would help them expand the network, exchange information and strengthen the familiarity between the Persada members and the Japanese Consulate in Surabaya, and among the Persada members," he said.

Tani also highlighted the Japanese Government's recent grants for supporting East Java in education and health sectors. In the education sector, Japan helped construct a school building in Lamongan District, and, in the health sector, it built a village maternity in Magetan District.

"This grant aims to spread aid at the grassroots level," he said.

According to him, the Japanese Government provides this assistance so that people in developing countries can get basic needs as human beings and improve the welfare of the regions receiving the grants.
