AntaraPalembang, South Sumatra (ANTARA) - Hundreds of people, waiting patiently since morning, swarmed the decorated vehicle carrying presidential candidate number 01 Joko Widodo (Jokowi) across Radial street, Palembang, on Tuesday.
Jokowi, in the company of wife Iriana, handed out white shirts during the course of their journey from Transmart Mall to the Palembang Sport Convention Center.
Showcased along the ride were several stages, including the prayer stage, highlighting South Sumatra's cultural diversity.
On reaching the PSCC, Jokowi was promptly welcomed by several thousand supporters.
While addressing the crowds, Jokowi admitted to being moved by the speech of Palembang's locals.
"I observed when the parade highlighted this area's religious and ethnic diversity, all were joyous in welcoming April 17 (Pilpres)," Jokowi recalled.
At that time, Jokowi sought the trust and support of South Sumatra's residents to carry forward Indonesia by assuming office for a second term.
The head of state lauded the fact that South Sumatra Province was blessed with abundant natural wealth apart from being a pride of the nation.
Furthermore, South Sumatra's people, belonging to varied cultures and tribes, lead a harmonious and peaceful existence.
Jokowi also likened South Sumatra to a miniature Indonesia; hence, worthy of being prioritized for development in the country.
Jokowi vowed to continue infrastructure development by ensuring that the Palembang-Bakauheni (Lampung) Toll Road becomes fully operational by June 2019.
The head of state also called on his loyalists to avoid being easily influenced and aggravated by fake news through slanders targeting him.
