Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - The sub-districts of Dayeuhkolot, Bojongsoang, and Baleendah in Bandung District, West Java Province, are reeling under the impact of floods after being pounded by continual downpour since Wednesday evening.

"This is the result of high precipitation in nearly all areas in Bandung District and Bandung City, and the Cikapundung River has overflowed its bank," Budi Budiman Wahyu, head of the rehabilitation and reconstruction section of the West Java disaster mitigation office, stated here on Thursday.

Floodwaters, reaching heights of between 10 and 40 centimeters, have submerged Dayeuhkolot Village, 10-30-centimeter-high waters in Citeureup village, 10-30 centimeters in Bojongsoang, and 10-60 centimeters in Andir Village.

Wahyu reported that a total of 40 families constituting 168 people, of which four were infants, have taken shelter at the Dayeuhkolot village hall.

In Baleendah, 193 people of 56 families had evacuated, while there were 19 evacuees in Citeureup.

The local authorities have set up a refuge command post and assessed the flood situation.
