Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU) has confirmed that preparations for the 2019 simultaneous elections, scheduled on April 17, 2019, are 90 percent complete.

"Election preparations are 90 percent complete. Nearly all provinces have dispatched logistics, from the sub-district level for the village level, to be thereafter directed to the polling stations," KPU commissioner Ilham Saputra remarked in Jakarta on Saturday

Saputra elaborated that the KPU will deploy helicopters for regions with challenging geographical traits.

"We have to deploy helicopter service for North Maluku, West Sulawesi, Papua, as the main hurdle is the tough geographical conditions. It is thereafter sent to sub-districts," he explained.

To ease the implementation process, the commission has offered technical assistance to polling organizer groups (KPPS) and sub-district election committees (KDP).

Eligible voters will need to take a host of decisions pertaining to the election of candidates respectively for the president and vice-president, members of the Republic of Indonesia Parliament, senators of the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI), and provincial and district/city legislators (DPRD I and II).
