Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Rescuers helped evacuation of 36 people displaced by flooding in Kendari, the capital of Southeast Sulawesi Province, on Sunday evening.

The evacuees were residents of BTN Griya Raya and BTN Citra Indah housing complexes which were submerged by flood waters reaching a height of up to one meter, Wahyuddin, spokesman of the Kendari Search and Rescue office (Basarnas Kendari), said.

The flooding was triggered by heavy rain falling incessantly for two hours in Kendari. Several rivers spilled over their banks because of the downpour.

Basarnas Kendari deployed two teams to move the flood victims to a safer place.

Kendari is often hit by flooding during rainy season.

Mukhsin Ibrahim, one of the flood victims, said he is tired of frequent flooding in his city. He asked the local authorities to find solution to the problem.
