"The Aceh Police have established a joint team to chase members of the armed group. Therefore, they should surrender," a spokesman of the Aceh Police Senior Commissioner Ery Apriyono said here on Sunday.
According to Apriyono, the existence of the the armed group was first detected when a video on plan to launch an armed movement led by a person identified as TSMAM or AR went viral in social media.
Based on the police investigation, the armed group has planned to terrorize the public and target the military and police.
They also planned to attack officials of a local party as well as those who refused to cooperate with them and were considered as their enemies.
"After an investigation, the police have got some names including NA who died in an exchange of fire with the police," Apriyono remarked.
The police have involved in a 45-minute exchange of fire when they tried to arrest members of the armed group led by MNC alias NA (38) in Seuneubok, Kruet Lintang Village in Peureulak subdistrict of East Aceh on April 24 at around 08.00 p.m.
MNC alias NA was shot on his chest and died. A member of the group M (34) was detained but another member S managed to escape.
"After the exchange of fire, the police seized three rifles comprising two AK56 and one AK47, three magazines, 400 bullets, three handcuffs, two cellular phones, three belts, and two documents on regulations as mujahideen army," he said.
Previously on April 16, four members of the armed group surrendered to the East Aceh Police.
"Those who refuse to surrender, we will continue to hunt them down. Security personnel will take stern measures against them in accordance to the law," he said.
