The ministry's Director General for Sea Transportation R. Agus H. Purnomo and PLN's Director of Business for central region of Java Amir Rosidin inked the agreement here on Monday.
"Today, an agreement has been signed between the Transportation Ministry and PLN on power supply to Patimban Port," Purnomo revealed.
Purnomo confirmed that PLN will provide electricity for the port's operation.
"We are upbeat that the agreement, to be effective for five years, will strengthen cooperation and synergy between the Transportation Ministry and PT PLN to streamline the development and operation of Patimban Port," he explained.
Patimban Port is planned to commence operation in December 2019 and become full operational in 2027.
A total of 50 megawatts of electricity will be required for the port's operation.
"I believe that we can secure the power supply," Purnomo stated, adding that PLN has built its power plants in Central and West Java.
In the meantime, PLN's Director of Business for central region of Java Amir Rosidin confirmed that the company has built infrastructure for supplying electricity, particularly to industries in the region.
"We will also develop (the infrastructure) for Patimban. We will set up a main station in proximity to the location," he stated.
Funding of Rp100 billion will be required to develop the main electricity distribution station in Patimban Port, he pointed out.
Patimban Port is a "prestigious’"project, with a handling capacity of 3.5 million TEU of cargo for Phase I; 5.5 million TEUs in Phase II, and will reach 7.5 million TEUs in Phase III.
