"We, the Indonesian people, should be proud, happy, and grateful that we have proven to be an adult nation. Showing our maturity in democracy, elections, and as a nation," Joko Widodo said in his presidential victory speech, delivered on Tuesday in Kampung Deret, Jakarta.
He also said he was grateful that the Indonesian people continue to maintain peace and are tolerant, and care for differences in politics and protect the nation’s unity.
Jokowi noted that the 2019 election process had been completed honestly, fairly and peacefully.
"We have run elections with an improved political maturity. I believe that we can pass the election peacefully, in accordance with the constitutional mandate," Jokowi said.
Jokowi, the former Mayor of Solo, noted that the completion of the vote recount of the 2019 Presidential Election had become a reflection of Indonesian sovereignty.
"We will realize the trust of the people in development programs that are fair and equitable for all groups and all levels of society throughout Indonesia," Jokowi remarked.
Vice Presidential candidate number 01, Ma'ruf Amin, was also in attendance.
Jokowi and Ma'ruf delivered victory speeches before residents of Kampung Deret, Tanah Tinggi Village, Johar Baru Subdistrict, Central Jakarta.
Residents enthusiastically welcomed Jokowi's arrival to their villages.
Kampung Deret was one of Jokowi's slum improvement programs while he served as Governor of Jakarta.
