Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno election team (BPN) has put forth an appeal to the demonstrating masses and police personnel to exercise self-restraint and desist from committing violent acts.

"We also urge the police to demonstrate self-control and to not instinctively resort to using weapons and other means to deal with the rioting crowd," Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, the BPN spokesman, noted here on Wednesday.

Simanjuntak called on protestors to steer clear of violence and avoid becoming agitated. Moreover, netizens must not resort to verbal violence in their social media interactions.

Simanjuntak refuted claims of holding the BPN team accountable for the violence that had erupted during a protest on Tuesday and Wednesday morning after the presidential election results were declared by the General Election Commission (KPU) on early Tuesday.

The BPN spokesman held the provocateurs responsible for committing violent acts during the rioting in few parts of Jakarta at dawn on Wednesday.

"This is since the start, Mr Prabowo has made up his mind to take the constitutional path and appealed to hold peaceful rallies and exercise one's democratic rights," he noted.

Earlier, presidential candidate Subianto and his mate Uno, along with other BPN team members, including Bambang Widjojanto, former commissioner of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), and Imam Sufaat, former chief of staff of the Air Force, held a meeting to discuss preparations to file a lawsuit in the Constitutional Court (MK) against the KPU over alleged fraud during the implementation of the elections.
