Jakarta (ANTARA) - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has appealed to all parties to ward off the potential for security disorder after the demonstrations on May 21-22, 2019.

"In principle, we should fend off the potential for security disorder. That is our expectation," Baswedan stated in Jakarta on Monday.

Governor Baswedan noted that access to the Jalan MH Thamrin area will soon be opened, while situation in the other areas of Jakarta remains stable.

Currently, no means of public transportation is allowed entry into the Jalan MH Thamrin area around the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) office.

"We are optimistic of the activities around the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) office returning to normalcy," the governor remarked.

Several shops and shopping centers on the Jalan MH Thamrin were shut down in the event of the demonstrations.

The governor has appealed to the public in the Jalan MH Thamrin area to return to their routine activities.

Baswedan pointed out that the people will feel at ease once shops and shopping centers reopen.

The provincial government of DKI Jakarta has conducted constant monitoring of the Jalan MH Thamrin area and other locations.

The local administration has been handling matters related to health, sanitation, fire, and water supply.

"Our officers are on alert," he remarked.

Jakarta Police Chief, Insp. Gen. Gatot Eddy Pramono, had earlier made assurance that the situation was safe in Jakarta following the riots that broke out on Tuesday night following the official declaration of the election results.

"Yes, thank God, the situation in Jakarta is conducive," Pramono stated.

Pramono remarked that security forces had cooperated with Jakarta's residents to maintain a conducive situation in Indonesia's capital city.

Pramono recently corroborated that the situation around the Bawaslu building was safe.

He noted that the means of transportation or public vehicles were allowed to access Jalan Agus Salim towards the Tanah Abang Area.
