"The number of vehicles leaving Jakarta via the Cikampek Main Toll Gate on D-7 (seven days before Eid al-Fitr) surged, from 23,484 to 57,405," Chief of the Public Relations Bureau of state toll road operator Jasa Marga of the Jakarta-Cikampek section
Bekasi, W Java (ANTARA) - A spike of 1.44 percent in traffic volume was recorded on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road, seven days prior to the Eid al-Fitr festivities on Wednesday in comparison with the daily average.

"The number of vehicles leaving Jakarta via the Cikampek Main Toll Gate on D-7 (seven days before Eid al-Fitr) surged, from 23,484 to 57,405," Chief of the Public Relations Bureau of state toll road operator Jasa Marga of the Jakarta-Cikampek section Hendra Damanik remarked in Bekasi, West Java, on Thursday.

The figure will rise, as Jasa Marga has forecast the exodus of homebound traffic to peak on Thursday night until Friday.

Several thousand private cars departed from the capital through the Jakarta-Cikampek toll gate for cities in Central Java and East Java.

Damanik noted that the surge in the number of private cars plying on the toll road on D-7 was partly due to the toll road operator's decision to ban heavy-duty vehicles apart from fuel oil- and basic necessities-laden trucks from traveling on the toll road section, as of Wednesday.

Jasa Marga has forecast 74,496 cars to leave Jakarta for several destinations in Central Java and East Java via the Cikampek Main Toll Gate six days before Eid-al-Fitr (D-6) on Thursday. The figure indicates a rise of 159.7 percent than the normal traffic.

"The number of homebound vehicles leaving Jakarta has increased owing to the policy to impose one-way traffic in the easterly direction, effective as of today," he added. EDITED BY INE
