Jakarta (ANTARA) - Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko responded to the Aceh referendum discourse over whether it must return to the constitution of the Republic of Indonesia.

"We cannot respond excessively. This country already has a constitution that has been implemented, there is no other thought," Moeldoko said here on Friday.

Moeldoko assessed that if the Aceh referendum discourse is in the form of an academic discourse, then it is permissible.

But if the discourse involves the intention to leave the Unitary State of Indonesia, it poses juridical risk.

He also considered the Aceh referendum statement made by the General Chairperson of the Aceh Party DPA, Muzakir Manaf alias Mualem, an emotion expressed in response to not winning the election.

"Don't overdo it in response, it will be wrong. But if you have the intention and action, we will play it," Moeldoko said firmly.

Earlier, Mualem made a request for a referendum while attending the commemoration of the 9th memorial service of late Tgk Muhammad Hasan Ditiro.
