Nias, North Sumatra (ANTARA) -
Nias, North Sumatra (ANTARA) - This year's Sail Indonesia series -- Sail Nias 2019 -- will be organized on Nias Island, North Sumatra Province, from July to September, to promote the island as a world tourist destination.

Sail Nias, an international maritime event, will offer a viable opportunity to promote Nias globally and boost the local economy, Zaman K. Mendrofa, a local young prominent figure, remarked here on Wednesday.

Mendrofa has appealed to the central government; local administrations at the provincial, district, and municipal levels; businessmen; and locals to help ensure the success of Sail Nias.

The maritime event is expected to help drive infrastructure development in Nias District.

Local residents and those engaged in the tourism industry in Nias must ensure that tourists arriving for Sail Nias feel comfortable, happy, and safe during their stay on the island, he noted.
The Joko Widodo (Jokowi) administration has discerned that marine tourism, despite its vast potential, has been overlooked.

Tourism Minister Arief Yahya voiced Indonesia's aspirations of having eight thousand yachts, including foreign yachts. near its shores by 2019.

Sail Nias will be part of the Sail Indonesia series, earlier organized as Sail Moyo Tambora in 2018, Sail Sabang in 2017, Sail Karimata in 2016, Sail Tomini in 2015, Sail Raja Ampat in 2014, Sail Komodo in 2013, Sail Morotai in 2012, Sail Wakatobi-Belitung in 2011, Sail Banda in 2010, and Sail Bunaken in 2009.
