Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudy Sufahriadi appealed to the province's residents to not visit Jakarta over the presidential election dispute whose trial at the Constitutional Court (MK) will be held on June 14-28.

"We have urged them similar to what the governor had done. Hence, we will not conduct an operation to stop them. (We) are just urging," he noted here on Thursday.

Sufahriadi requested the people to stay put where they are and follow the legal process by the MK instead of visiting the MK building in Jakarta. He had given assurance that the MK would maintain a neutral stance and process the dispute in line with the existent laws.

"Until today, we continue to make attempts (to urge them) to not go there. We are trying," he stated.

Earlier, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil had called on the local residents to lay their trust on MK in processing the dispute.

Ridwan Kamil urged them to stay at home while awaiting the MK's verdict on the presidential election dispute filed by presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto, who alleged massive fraud in the election.

"It would be better for us to wait at home. We will see the result. Everything is being handled by the MK since our country is a legal state. Hence, to maintain conducive situation, the people of West Java should not go too far. Leave it to the Constitutional Court," the governor stated.

Indonesia had held simultaneous legislative and presidential elections on April 17, 2019.

The General Elections Commission (KPU), on May 22 at 1:28 a.m. local time, had declared the final results of the elections, detailing the victory of the Joko Widodo (Jokowi)-Ma'ruf Amin pair.

The final tally indicated the Jokowi-Amin pair had won 85 million votes, or 55.5 percent of the national vote, as compared to contenders Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno's 68 million votes, or 44.5 percent.

The Jokowi-Amin pair had declared victory, while the Subianto-Uno pair rejected the KPU's official tabulation result and vowed to challenge it in the MK.

On May 24, 2019, a lawyer team of the Subianto-Uno pair filed a lawsuit at the MK over the disputed election results.
