Indonesian President Joko Widodo will attend the 34th ASEAN Summit in Bangkok, Thailand, from June 22 to 23, 2019.
The 34th ASEAN Summit, hosted by Thailand, will follow the theme "Advancing partnership for sustainability". The theme will focus on increasing the synergy between the vision of the ASEAN community in 2025 and the Agenda for Sustainable Development under the United Nations.
The Director General of ASEAN Cooperation Jose Tavares outlined a series of activities to take place at the 34th ASEAN Summit, including meetings between ASEAN member leaders and representatives from the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, ASEAN leaders meeting with representatives from the ASEAN Business Advisory Council, plenary sessions and a retreat.
In addition, there will be a high-level meeting between the heads of state and the government of Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines, along with the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Road Triangle Summit.
The 34th ASEAN Summit is expected to produce 16 documents, including the ASEAN Leader's Vision Statement on the Partnership for Sustainability, ASEAN Joint View of the Indo-Pacific, Bangkok Declaration on Combating Marine Waste in ASEAN Region, and the ASEAN Leaders’ Statement on the ASEAN Culture Year.
