Biak (ANTARA) - Tourism Minister Arief Yahya is scheduled to officially open the Biak Munawa Wampasi (BMW) Festival to be held in Biak Numfor on July 1-6, 2019.

"The Biak Numfor district government has sent an invitation letter to the tourism minister in Jakarta. Yes, this festival showcasing the Biak indigenous culture has been included in the Tourism Ministry's annual Calendar of Tourism Events," Turbey Onisimus Dangeubun, head of the Biak Tourism Office, stated here on Thursday.

The festival will showcase distinctive traditions of Biak, such as "Snapmor" shallow water fishing and "Apen Beyeren" walk on hot rocks.

Other event activities comprise an underwater photo contest, fishing contest, Wor dance parade, traditional Mansusui and Wairon boat competition, local creative economic expo, a music show, culinary bazaar, and Padaido isle tour.

The annual BMW Festival this year is themed "Strengthening culture, framing enchantment."
