Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Constitutional Court (MK) rejected the arguments of Prabowo-Sandi's attorney regarding the presidential candidate number 02's version of the count in the election result that was announced on May 22, 2019. "The petitioner did not prove with sufficient evidence to convince the court. Prabowo-Sandi's attorney could not prove the results of calculations based on the legal recapitulation form for all polling stations," Judge of the Constitutional Court, Arief Hidayat said when announcing his verdict here Thursday.

The applicant argued that Prabowo-Sandiaga obtained 52 percent or 68,650,239 votes, while Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin gained 63,573,169, or 48 percent of the votes.

However, according to the results of recapitulation carried out in stages at the polling station, sub-district, district, provincial and national levels by the General Elections Commission (KPU), Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin gained 85,607,362 votes, while Prabowo-Sandiaga totaled 68,650,239 votes, he said.

The panel of judges also considered the fact that Prabowo-Sandi's attorney did not attach evidence of the results of the complete vote recapitulation in 34 provinces.

"Most of the C1 models are not clearly described regarding its source," Arief Hidayat said.

Because of the incomplete and vague evidence, the court also decided not to accept the applicant's argument regarding the vote count version of Prabowo-Sandiaga.

Indonesia had held simultaneous legislative and presidential elections on April 17, 2019, in which incumbent Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Prabowo Subianto once again went head-to-head.

The MK held hearings between June 14 and 28, over a legal suit filed by the losing Subianto-Uno ticket, who challenged the KPU's vote tally announced on May 22, 2019.

Following the announcement, incumbent Jokowi declared victory, though Subianto rejected the results and, in an all-out attempt to overturn the presidential election results, decided to approach the courts to challenge the KPU's election results.

The Subianto team also alleged that systematic, massive, and structured frauds had taken place during the presidential election.
