A passenger occupancy rate of 60 percent is quite good. Now in Kertajati, the load factor has reached 70 percent and still shows a growing trend, from the previous 50 percent
Kertajati, W Java (ANTARA) - Passenger occupancy rate at the Kertajati International Airport (BJIB) in West Java has shown positive growth and reached 70 percent, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has said. "A passenger occupancy rate of 60 percent is quite good. Now in Kertajati, the load factor has reached 70 percent and still shows a growing trend, from the previous 50 percent," Sumadi said after observing the airport in Kertajati, Majalengka District of West Java Saturday.

Present at the inspection were Deputy West Java Governor Uu Ruzhanul Ulum, the Director General of Air Transportation Polana Pramesti, the Director General of Land Transportation Budi Setiyadi, and President Director of state-airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin.

The minister applauded the West Java administration and PT Angkasa Pura II for their hard work and effort in improving and promoting the newly operated airport.

The central government has developed Kertajati Airport to support Husein Sastranegara Airport which cannot be expanded anymore due to its location at the center of Bandung City, West Java, he added.

"Accessibility to Kertajati has become President Joko Widodo's concern. Therefore, the government is serious in developing infrastructure to Kertajati," the minister said.

The public still has issues with the accessibility to Kertajati although many others have welcomed the new airport which is closer to their residences, he admitted.

"There is a passenger from Karawang who is flying to Medan. He prefers to fly from BIJB, and does not have to go to Jakarta or Bandung," the minister said.
