The House of Representatives' Commission VII is the special parliamentary committee devoted to energy and mining, technology and research, as well as environmental issues.
Sadikin also spoke of the importance of having mineral reserves for future generations and the need for expansion in research and development for the coal and mineral sector.
In the next five years, there would be 25 million tons worth of coal produced, some of which would be used to generate electricity, he said.
He also referred to the importance of an industry strategy for the sector, as well as fiscal policy calculations.
The hearing was also attended by the Director General of Mineral and Coal from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bambang Gatot, and the Ministry's Director for Mineral Business Development Yunus Saefulhak.
Aside from discussions around the value added in downstreaming, the hearing also touched on the impact of mining corporation activities that need to be considered. (INE)
