The letter mentioned two requests, namely the request for suspension of detention and the request for legal assistance for Kivlan Zen
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Military (TNI) headquarters will form a legal aid team for Kivlan Zen, the former chief of staff of the Army Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad), which will work closely with the retired general's lawyers. The formation of the legal aid team is based on a request from Zen's legal team submitted to the Military Chief, Air Chief Marshall Hadi Tjahjanto recently, a spokesman of the Indonesian Military Maj. Gen Sisriadi said here Monday.

"The letter mentioned two requests, namely the request for suspension of detention and the request for legal assistance for Kivlan Zen," he said.

After coordinating with the ministers concerned in political, legal and security affairs, the request for suspension of detention was rejected, but the TNI would provide legal assistance for Kivlan Zen, Sisriadi said.

"Legal assistance for Maj. Gen (ret.) Kivlan Zen will not only be provided during the pre-trial but throughout the legal process until there is a legal verdict in the case," he elaborated.

The police rejected the request for Zen who was named a suspect in a case of hoax, treason and illegal weapon ownership since he was uncooperative during his interrogation, a spokesman of the Indonesian Police Brig. Gen Dedi Prasetyo said earlier. (INE)
