"This model school is expected to encourage other elementary schools to implement Germas (Healthy Community Movement) in an effort to prevent a disease outbreak in future," Tiara Amelia, the team's chairperson, remarked at the UI Campus in Depok, West Java, on Tuesday.
The two-day training program on July 22-23 presented several UI lecturers, a psychologist, and child food chef, as speakers.
An Islamic integrated elementary school (SDIT) Ummul Quro, located in Beji Sub-district, Depok, has been selected as a pilot project of the Germas project for a healthy school.
The students undergo routine medical check-ups and engage in physical exercises at least twice a week, particularly for obese children.
The students are also encouraged to eat healthy foods, such as vegetables and fruits.
