Ambon (ANTARA) - Expansion of Aru Islands District into a new autonomous region has, in fact, become a strategic requirement to help optimize public service and shorten the range of government control to be more effective.

"Geographically, the Aru Islands District is one of the islands in Maluku, with villages in walking distance to one another," a member of the Maluku provincial legislative council, Temy Oersipuny, remarked here on Friday.

The area is also directly adjacent to neighboring countries, such as Australia. Hence, in order to shorten the range of government control, the right step is for it to be expanded into a new autonomous region, which has been sought after by the Division Team in the region and has received positive support from the district, provincial and sub-district administrations as well as the provincial legislative council.

The expansion of the Aru Islands District is one of the important aspects in the implementation of regional autonomy in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

"Hence, as a regional child of the Aru Islands District, I strongly support the division of Aru Islands," a member of the Maluku provincial legislative council from the electoral district of Aru District, Southeast Maluku and Tual City stated.

The division of Aru Islands is deemed crucial as an effort to create an effective and efficient government to ensure that the welfare of people in the Aru Islands District is improved at the earliest.

"Sometimes, our people are caught while looking for fish in the area bordering neighboring countries, so division is deemed necessary, so that all runs smoothly," he added.
