Nunukan, N Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Malaysia has deported 149 Indonesians in connection with several cases to Nunukan District in North Kalimantan.

The deportees, constituting 101 men, 33 women, 10 boys, and five girls, arrived at the Tunon Taka Port in Nunukan on Thursday, the Indonesian Consulate General in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah state of Malaysia, stated.

An official of the Nunukan Immigration Office Bimo Mardi Wibowo stated here on Friday that the deportation was the second of its kind to be conducted during this week.

Wibowo revealed that the 149 deportees in various cases comprised 12 for involvement in drug cases, three in criminal cases, 57 for overstaying, and 37 for illegally entering into Malaysia. A total of 38 deportees were born in Sabah.

Immigration officers then took charge of the deportees after they arrived at Tunon Taka Port at 5 p.m. local time. The deportees were then handed over to the Agency for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers (BP3TKI) and housed in an apartment building in South Nunukan Village.

The Indonesians have served their jail terms in Kemanis Papar and Menggatal Detention Centers in Malaysia before their deportation to Nunukan.

Wibowo stated that the the Immigration Office had highlighted the significance of possessing legal documentation to work in a foreign nation.
