Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Chairman Rosan Roeslani has appealed to entrepreneurs to support the government's decision to relocate the capital city from Jakarta to East Kalimantan.

"The meticulous study regarding the transfer of the capital city had been conducted by the National Development Planning/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas)," Roeslani remarked after a discussion between Kadin and Bank Indonesia in Jakarta on Monday.

Extensive manpower, work, and costs will be required to transfer the capital city.

"All parties must be ready and support the government’s decision, both in terms of the regulators and entrepreneurs," Roeslani remarked.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had earlier named Penajam Paser Utara and Kutai Kertanegara in East Kalimantan Province as the sites of the new capital city.

In line with the government's decision, Roeslani has appealed to entrepreneurs to welcome the transfer of the capital city through readying business expansion to the new capital.

He believes the relocation of the capital city will offer new business opportunities in the midst of an economic slowdown, at both the national and global level.

Jokowi reiterated that the government had conducted studies on candidates of the new capital city in Kalimantan Island.

He elaborated that East Kalimantan had met the requirements to be the new capital city that entail minimum risk of natural disaster and located in the heart of Indonesia. The site is also in proximity to big cities, including Balikpapan and Samarinda, and has 180 thousand hectares of government-owned land.

The National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) noted that development of the new capital city will be initiated in 2021, and the construction of government buildings is targeted for completion in 2024.
