The stock of LPG for the Jayapura region could meet the needs of the community for the next 29 days
Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - State-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina has guaranteed a secure supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for Jayapura and its surrounding areas following riots in the city.

"The stock of LPG for the Jayapura region could meet the needs of the community for the next 29 days," Unit Manager Communication, Relations, and CSR Marketing for PT Pertamina Marketing Operation Region (MOR) VIII Maluku-Papua Brasto Galih Nugroho said in Jayapura on Tuesday. Pertamina has ensured that the public could obtain LPG cylinders weighing 50kg, 12kg and 5.5kg, in 21 outlets across Jayapura City and Sentani districts.

"The stock of LPG for households in Jayapura region reaches 6,178 units and the stock of LPG for non-households is about 404 units," Nugroho remarked.

During the distribution of LPG to the outlets, the military will escort the shipment from the agents to ensure its security.

Pertamina has ensured the availability of energy for the community and supports the process of restoring a conducive environment in Jayapura.

The mass rally on August 29 in Jayapura over racist slurs against Papuan students in Surabaya and Malang, East Java, turned violent, as protestors started pelting stones and torching some buildings.

Among the public facilities that suffered damage in the rioting were the offices of Papua People's Assembly (MRP), Papua Religious Empowerment Agency, Papua Agriculture and Food Resilience Office, Papua Health Office, Jayapura parliament building, Religious Affairs Office, Law and Human Rights Office, and Jayapura One Stop Administration Services (Samsat) Office.
