Jakarta (ANTARA) - An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 shook southwest of Ternate, North Maluku province, early Thursday, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said .

The epicenter of the earthquake which struck at 1:9 a.m. Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB) was located in the sea 152 kilometers southwest of Ternate at a depth of 10 kilometers, the agency said on its official website.

The tremor did not trigger a tsunami.

However, the BMKG warned local residents of aftershocks.
