The union's spokesperson, Agus Gia, noted that the Embassy of Indonesia to Syria in Damascus found the migrant worker Maharani binti Marzuki on Sept 7, and she was under the protection of the Government of Indonesia.
"The embassy had immediately responded to the union's report of the missing migrant worker," Gia remarked.
Maharani's relatives, based in Sumbawa District, West Nusa Tenggara Province, had contacted the migrant worker union on Aug 28. Following the report, on Sept 1, the union had sent a letter detailing Maharani's whereabouts to the Embassy of Indonesia in Damascus.
Migrant activist Gia confirmed that Maharani will board a transit flight to Lebanon before flying back home to Indonesia.
During the past week, the union had collaborated with the Indonesian government to locate some missing migrant workers whose whereabouts were unknown for nine to 13 years.
Dewi Puspita, a female migrant worker from Sukabumi District, West Java Province, had been missing in Syria for nine years and was finally found on Sept 19 by the Embassy of Indonesia in Damascus.
In the meantime, Ranti Ratnaningsih, a migrant worker from Indramayu District, West Java, was also not traceable for 13 years. However on Sept 15, 2019, the Embassy of Indonesia to Qatar in Doha had found Ratnaningsih after receiving a report from the union.
